I Think Someone’s Checking Up On Me

Here are some interesting Google searches that led some folks to my site today:
- "wreak havoc on microcode"
- "brent peak voodoo"
- "cisco i will dance gleefully"
- "i will summon forth daemons and command"
- "will physically rip every piece of cisco"
- "behold, i have become death, destroyer"
- "i will yell ios configuration commands"
I'm reposting them to give the Cisco googlers something to find.
Bit-Flipping Voodoo Dolls Threaten The Telecommunications Industry [UPDATE]
[UPDATE]
I'm afraid the tale of curses, demons, and flipping digits had to come down. At the request of Cisco Systems, I have regretfully removed this post--my most-read post ever. Oh well.
Twitter in Plain English
Here's a video that's been around for a while, but for my friends who just don't get Twitter, this is a pretty good explanation. I hope to see you on Twitter soon!
How Do You Use Facebook & Twitter?

Over the last few weeks, my online socializing has slowly migrated from Facebook to Twitter. I'm still using Facebook, but I prefer Twitter these days. Like a lot of people, I have a hard time explaining what Twitter is, but it helps to contrast it with Facebook. So let me explain the difference by telling you how I use them.
For me, Facebook is a way to connect with people I'm already aquainted with to some degree, whether it's a current good friend or a college friend I haven't heard from in years. It's helped me keep up with friends and family, as well as reconnect with old friends. It's limited to these groups since I need their permission to get in touch.
Twitter, on the other hand, allows me to 'follow' anyone I want, without their permission. This makes it possible to make a connection with people I don't know, but want to get aquainted with or listen to. I've enjoyed connecting with children's pastors from across the country and having quick and easy conversations about various ministry topics and issues. I've even been able to keep up with conferences I haven't attended through the updates of my Twitter connections.
So that's how I use Facebook and Twitter. How about you? Any recommendations for other great uses of these services?
How to stop the Facebook virus…
I see more and more Facebook friends these days whose accounts have been taken over by the Koobface Virus (aka the Facebook Virus). Please do your part to keep it from spreading.
- Keep your antivirus software up-to-date. There are plenty of good, free antivirus programs you can use. I recommend AVG AntiVirus.
- Don't click on links to unknown sites from ANYBODY without first asking them if they intended to send you that link.
- Don't log in to Facebook, or any other online account, without being ABSOLUTELY certain that the computer you are using is protected by updated antivirus software. Be very careful about logging in on friends' computers!
The Facebook Virus isn't actually on Facebook. If your Facebook account is spamming your friends, then the virus is on your computer (or a computer you logged in from) and probably doing more than just turning your Facebook account into a spam-sending zombie. Here's what you need to do:
- Get your computer checked and cleaned immediately.
- Log in to Facebook (and any other online accounts you have such as email, banking, etc.) from a secure computer and change your password. Use this link to check the strength of your new password. I'd bet almost anything that your current password wouldn't pass the test.
- Go back to steps 1-3 above.
If you're traveling without a computer, but still want to update your social network sites, I recommend downloading MojoPac onto a USB drive and using that drive on other computers. Be sure to also install an antivirus program on that drive.
With all due respect, if your Facebook account has been taken over by a virus, then you've probably been a bit naive, if not gullible. Please follow these instructions and be more careful!
If you have more ideas on keeping your computer and online accounts safe, please let me know.
